FaceOff respects copyright and follows the notice-and-takedown process of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512, the "DMCA").
This page explains how to report content on FaceOff that you believe infringes your copyright, what happens after you report it, and how an uploader can dispute a removal.
This page supplements our Terms of Service (see section 24, Copyright Complaints).
1. Who To Contact
Send copyright takedown notices to FaceOff's designated Copyright Agent, registered with the U.S. Copyright Office (Registration Number DMCA-1075630):
Email is the fastest way to reach us and is strongly preferred.
2. How To Send a Takedown Notice
For your notice to be valid under the DMCA, it must include ALL of the following:
Identification of the copyrighted work you claim is infringed (or a representative list, if there are several).
Identification of the infringing material and where it is on FaceOff — a link (URL) to the stream, replay, clip, post, or profile, or enough detail for us to find it.
Your contact information — name, email address, and, if available, mailing address and phone number.
A good-faith statement — e.g., "I have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law."
An accuracy statement — e.g., "The information in this notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am the copyright owner or am authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner."
Your physical or electronic signature — a typed full legal name in an email counts.
Notices missing required elements may not be valid, and we may ask you to fix them before we act.
3. What Happens After You Send a Notice
We review the notice and, if it is valid, remove or disable access to the material expeditiously.
We notify the user who posted the material and give them a copy of the notice (including your contact information — that is part of the DMCA process).
The uploader may respond with a counter-notice (below).
We track valid takedowns against the uploader's account. Repeat infringers may have their accounts terminated (Terms of Service section 24).
4. Counter-Notices (For Uploaders)
If your content was removed because of a takedown notice and you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to [email protected].
A valid counter-notice must include ALL of the following:
Identification of the removed material and where it appeared before removal.
A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
Your name, address, and phone number.
A consent statement — that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the United States, any judicial district in which FaceOff may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the takedown notice or their agent.
Your physical or electronic signature.
If we receive a valid counter-notice, we forward it to the original complainant. If they do not notify us within 10 to 14 business days that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the alleged infringement, we may restore the removed material.
5. Misuse of This Process
Do NOT send false claims.
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing — or that material was removed by mistake — can be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees.
Takedown notices are legal documents, and we may share them with the affected user, our advisors, or transparency projects.
6. Non-Copyright Complaints
This process is only for copyright.
For harassment, impersonation, privacy, or other Community Guidelines issues, use in-app reporting or email [email protected] — see the Community Guidelines.
We may update this page from time to time. The "Last Updated" date above shows the current version. Material changes to the takedown process will be reflected here.
